THE MARRIAGE OF THE PINE

Marriage of the Pine is an installation in upstate New York and was part of a grant provided by Levelgreen Institute Program for sustainability.

Artist Rebecca Thompson wanted to relate the history of a tree which had been cut in half to the history and sanctity of marriage. The two halves are linked together with the endless knot.

The white pine is the most sacred tree for the Iroquois Nation of New York and the Willow is a mythical wood associated with the feminine, water and dreams.
